Dubai’s dining scene just welcomed a sleek new arrival. Maison Shibuya, the Japanese flagship concept from TakaHisa, has opened its doors on Bluewaters Island, bringing a high-end Japanese supermarket and lifestyle boutique to one of the city’s buzziest waterfront destinations.
Inspired by Tokyo’s Shibuya district, the concept blends modern Japanese culture with traditional craftsmanship. Known for its meticulous omakase and premium imports, TakaHisa expands its vision here into a refined retail space designed to weave Japanese gastronomy into everyday life.
From Tokyo to Dubai
What sets Maison Shibuya apart is its supply chain. Operating with its own processing facility at Toyosu Market, the store sources seafood and vegetables directly in Japan before air-freighting them to the UAE. The result is a level of freshness rarely experienced outside Japan.
Inside, shoppers can browse premium wagyu beef, seasonal Japanese fruits and a tightly curated edit of speciality groceries and lifestyle goods. Dedicated fishmonger and butcher counters anchor the space, emphasising craftsmanship and transparency.
The interiors mirror the brand’s philosophy. Warm timber panelling, clean grid frameworks and softly lit shelving create a calm, contemporary setting inspired by Japanese design principles. It feels immersive yet restrained – more curated gallery than conventional grocery store.
Maison Shibuya also showcases TakaHisa’s signature desserts, overseen by pastry chef Aso, a finalist for Gault & Millau’s Best Pastry Chef. A dedicated range for families and children adds to the store’s everyday appeal.
A Dual Destination
An online platform now extends Maison Shibuya’s reach beyond the physical shop, offering access to premium Japanese ingredients across Dubai. Soon, the neighbouring teppanyaki restaurant TAIGA will complete the concept, pairing immersive retail with elevated dining.
Already ranked No. 23 on the Middle East and North Africa’s 50 Best Restaurants list, TakaHisa continues to cement its reputation as one of the region’s leading Japanese culinary names.
