The joy of switching off
In a city that never really switches off, a new grassroots initiative is inviting Dubai residents to do exactly that. The Anti-Doomscroll Stroll Club, launched and hosted by The Karak, is a community-focused walk through Satwa designed to help people unplug from their screens and reconnect with the city around them, taking place every Sunday till the weather allows.
Created as a response to the growing fatigue of constant scrolling, the concept is simple: put your phone away, lace up your trainers and explore one of Dubai’s most characterful neighbourhoods at a slower pace.
Rediscovering Satwa
Each route is curated to pass through local cafés, spaces, and hidden spots, turning the walk into a moment of discovery while supporting local business through this curated experience through Satwa. Known for its long-standing cafeterias, independent businesses and multicultural fabric, the neighbourhood provides the perfect backdrop for a walk rooted in discovery.

Each route has been thoughtfully mapped to highlight hidden gems and local institutions, some of which have been part of the community for up to 40 years. Walkers can choose to go solo, pair up with a ‘stroll buddy’ or move in small groups, with the shared goal of staying present and off their phones.
The experience doesn’t end when the stroll does. From 6:30pm onwards, participants will regroup at Boston Bar in Jumeira Rotana, a long-standing venue with nearly three decades of history. Expect a laid-back social setting with a curated playlist by Karak Sounds, alongside drinks, pub-style bites, and classic bar games like pool and darts.
It’s designed to be an easy, welcoming environment where strangers can become acquaintances – and perhaps even friends – all without the distraction of notifications.
Gentle Escaping
At its core, the Anti-Doomscroll Stroll Club is about creating space to pause. With social media, news cycles and everyday pressures often feeling overwhelming, the initiative offers a simple but effective antidote: step outside, move your body and engage with the world in real time.
Whether you’re new to Dubai or have lived here for years, it’s a reminder that some of the best experiences in the city aren’t found on a screen. Comfortable shoes are a must, and whether you arrive solo or with friends, the message is clear: disconnect to reconnect.
