Nobu Matsuhisa’s step into the world of fashion
Hollywood’s favourite sushi maestro is stepping into fashion. Nobu Matsuhisa has teamed up with Gapand designer Chris Stamp to launch a limited-edition, all-black capsule that blends streetwear minimalism with culinary cool.
The collaboration arrives via Sushi Club, the exclusive community founded by Matsuhisa and Stamp that merges food, hospitality and design. The result? A tight edit of elevated basics designed for city living — understated, wearable and quietly luxurious.
A Cult Chef Meets a Legendary Brand
For decades, dining at Nobu has been shorthand for insider status. Since the first restaurant opened in New York in the mid-1990s (co-founded by Robert De Niro), the Nobu empire has grown to include nearly 60 restaurants, global hotels and bestselling cookbooks. Now, it adds fashion to its résumé.
Gap, meanwhile, continues its image refresh under creative leadership that has pushed the heritage brand into fresh cultural territory. The Sushi Club partnership leans into that momentum, connecting Gap’s San Francisco roots with a globally recognised culinary icon.
The Collection
The Gap x Sushi Club drop focuses on three core pieces: a heavyweight graphic black T-shirt, a heavyweight black logo hoodie and a minimalist black trucker hat. Each item features premium fabrics — think dense cotton and breathable panels — and a playful new logo where chopsticks replace the capital ‘A’ in Gap.
Design details nod to San Francisco, Gap’s birthplace, while maintaining Sushi Club’s signature monochrome aesthetic. The collection is built for versatility: polished enough for dinner reservations, relaxed enough for long-haul flights.
The History
Matsuhisa is no stranger to Gap. Long-time fans may remember his appearance in the brand’s iconic 1990s ‘Individuals of Style’ campaign photographed by Herb Ritts. His return now feels like a full-circle moment — one powered by decades of cultural cachet.
Early buzz suggests the capsule won’t stay in stock for long, with select pieces already selling out online. Celebrity fans spotted celebrating the launch include Central Cee, Charlie Puth, Ciara, Shay Mitchell and Saweetie.
Whether you’re a long-time Gap loyalist or a devotee of Matsuhisa’s Nikkei cuisine, this collaboration serves up a clean, confident take on everyday essentials — proof that sometimes the sharpest statement is made in black.
