Artisanal bakes and specialty coffee
A new Emirati-owned bakery is bringing handcrafted pastries and speciality coffee to Al Quoz — and it’s already shaping up to be one of Dubai’s prettiest pit stops. Laughing Bread Bakery blends artisanal baking with gallery-like design, creating a calm, light-filled space where bread and coffee take centre stage.
Open daily from 8am to 6pm, the neighbourhood café champions handmade everything, from its pastries to its sculptural furniture. Floor-to-ceiling windows flood the corner space with natural light, spotlighting a striking carved stone wall that ripples with texture and shadow.
The interiors walk a fine line between industrial chic and organic warmth. Polished concrete floors bounce soft light around the room, while pendant lamps hover neatly above a curved service counter. A dramatic feature wall, crafted by local design studio Studio Aya Moug, resembles carved limestone and changes character as daylight shifts.
Furniture by Crazy Najjar adds to the sculptural feel, with chunky wooden chairs and tables that look hand-hewn from solid timber. The overall effect is serene and purposeful — more contemporary gallery than typical café.
Head chef Utkarsh Singh leads a kitchen that’s fully visible through a golden-framed viewing window, turning the baking process into live theatre. Guests can watch croissants being laminated and loaves scored before sliding into European deck ovens.
The pastry counter leans European, with neatly laminated croissants, pain au chocolat and savoury options like a truffle parmesan Danish. The coffee programme focuses on single-origin beans, currently spotlighting Ethiopian and Brazilian selections prepared via V60. Expect bright, fruit-forward brews alongside creamy iced matcha that avoids bitterness.
There’s RTA parking directly outside, though seating is limited thanks to the handcrafted furniture. And while coffee purists will appreciate the focus on quality beans, there’s no decaf option for now.
For fans of artisanal baking and design-led cafés, this newcomer is well worth the detour.
