Dubai’s culinary landscape has recently been enriched by the opening of Mashawi, a contemporary Syrian grill concept brought to life by the beloved homegrown brand, Dukkan El Baba. This new venture seamlessly blends traditional Middle Eastern flavors with modern dining experiences, offering patrons a fresh perspective on Syrian cuisine.

The Heart and Soul

Dukkan El Baba’s story is deeply rooted in family, tradition, and a shared love for authentic Middle Eastern cuisine. The founders – Tarek and Salam, and their parents – each bring a unique narrative that converges in Dubai to create a culinary haven.

Chef Tarek’s journey began in Damascus, Syria, where he developed a profound appreciation for traditional flavors. His culinary expertise and passion for authentic cooking led him to Dubai, where he met Salam. Salam, originally from Lebanon, spent her early years in Ghana before moving to Dubai. Together, they envisioned a place that would serve as a tribute to their mothers’ kitchen tables, offering dishes made with love and care.

Their parents, who had left Tripoli during the Lebanese Civil War, carried with them recipes that had been passed down through generations. These cherished recipes became the foundation upon which Dukkan El Baba was built – a place where friends and families could gather to enjoy heartwarming meals and create lasting memories.

Mashawi: A Contemporary Take on Syrian Grilling

Building upon the success of Dukkan El Baba comes Mashawi, a modern Syrian grill concept that pays homage to traditional grilling techniques while embracing contemporary culinary trends. Located within the Neighbourhood Food Halls in Motor City, Mashawi offers a vibrant and inviting atmosphere where diners can indulge in a variety of grilled delights.

Mashawi delivers the ultimate Syrian grill experience – succulent skewers, rich kofta tahini, and a smoky flavour that hits all the right notes. The chicken is irresistibly juicy and perfectly charred, while the toshka – a cheesy, meaty flatbread – is nothing short of unforgettable. Every creation reflects the passion for honoring Syrian culinary traditions.
