The joy of sharing
Habibi, come to Harummanis and Osteria Funkcoolio, because Chef Akmal Anuar is flourishing a warm invite to Dubai to join him at The Extended Table – a community initiative in its truest, most honest form.
During these strange and difficult times, the local legend has opened his doors even wider and set up a long communal table around which diners can gather for a meagre price and connect – over food, over experiences, over struggles and over shared joys. Such is the power of the long table, in Chef Anuar’s own words – it’s the connection.
From this week onwards, Chef Anuar and his small team will will prepare a few dishes for this communal table, and the concept is that the table extends if more people show up, and the team gets more support. The menu will be a daily rotating selection, born out of the resolution of an issue.
In the current climate, some ingredients are just impossible to use, and so this will be a menu created and served with pure passion, with heart, soul and a quiet desire to see fuller tables.
The menu is priced at AED 150, but but if any diners feel the food is deserving of more and want to offer more support, they can add on top of that. If someone is unable to pay any amount, Chef Anuar has requested that he be contacted and that person will be fed for free – in the spirit of humanity.
The tables will take place at Harummanis on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, April 15, 17 and 19, and at Osteria Funkcoolio on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, April 14, 16 and 18. Table is set from 7pm and diners are requested to book at 054 533 0707.
Harummanis is a city sweetheart, Chef Anuar’s return to the roots. To where it all began, to the bridge between Singapore and Malaysia, where he gets his identity from. It is an ode to the legacy that nourished him to be what he is today – a culture chef. The name comes from the name of the hawker stall his parents used to run in Singapore, serving up hot and fast food for the soul for nearly three decades.
Osteria Funkcoolio is a fusion of Japanese and Italian cuisine – itameshi, which meets a French bistro. 30 seats, a compact menu and a great experience waiting for you – this is the time to support our own.
