A slice of sensory dining
This January, Bait Elowal is inviting film lovers to rethink the traditional dinner-and-a-movie combo – a sensory experience to behold. Launching Cinema & Dining, a new weekend series running every Friday and Saturday from January 16, the historic venue blends arthouse cinema with carefully curated multi-course dining, all set within its intimate open-air courtyard.
The concept is simple but considered: slow down, watch a meaningful film, share a meal, and let the evening unfold at its own pace. Screenings run from 7pm to 10pm, creating an unhurried rhythm that encourages guests to linger long after the credits roll.
Across Borders and Cultures
Presented by Xposure in collaboration with Cinema Akil, the programme champions globally recognised filmmakers whose work explores human connection, memory and everyday life. The January line-up includes Iranian masters Abbas Kiarostami and Asghar Farhadi, alongside celebrated Arab filmmakers Michel Khleifi and Nadine Labaki.
The schedule features:
January 16: Homework – Abbas Kiarostami
January 17: Tale of the Three Jewels – Michel Khleifi
January 23: A Separation – Asghar Farhadi
January 24: Taste of Cherry – Abbas Kiarostami
January 30: The Experience – Abbas Kiarostami
January 31: Capernaum – Nadine Labaki
Each film is selected for its emotional depth and cultural resonance, making the series as much about reflection as it is entertainment.
What sets Cinema & Dining apart is the food. Each screening is paired with a bespoke multi-course menu, served during the film and designed to echo its tone, texture and mood. A special dish unique to each evening is revealed only once the night begins, adding an element of anticipation to the experience.
Dining is communal, encouraging shared moments and quiet conversation, much like the films themselves.
A House of Stories
Set within Bait Elowal, a space rooted in heritage and storytelling, the series feels deeply connected to its surroundings. The venue positions itself as a house of knowledge, memory and welcome – a place where past and present meet. Beneath the stars, guests are invited not just to watch and eat, but to belong.
With limited seating and an intentionally intimate format, Cinema & Dining is one for cinephiles, culture lovers and anyone craving something a little more meaningful on a weekend night.
