The best of two worlds
Dubai’s pie scene is getting a cross-cultural twist as piehaus teams up with 852 Bakery by Jun’s for the latest edition of its Counter Culture series.
Running from October 2 to 16, Counter Culture Edition 006 brings together piehaus chef Milan Jurkovic and Chef Kelvin Cheung for two limited-edition phyllo creations, available at both venues. It also marks the first time the series has travelled beyond piehaus’ own space.
The collaboration draws on the chefs’ personal food memories. The Chicago Dip Pie combines Jurkovic’s childhood memories of Balkan ćevapi with Cheung’s memories of Chicago Italian beef sandwiches. Expect smoked beef cheeks, Gouda, caramelised onion, house pickle and a secret spicy sauce, all wrapped in crisp phyllo and served with beef jus for dipping.
For something sweet, the Little Ube Pies bring Filipino and Balkan influences together with ube kajmak cream, glossy pecans and white chocolate.

Both pies will be available at piehaus in Alserkal Avenue and 852 Bakery, with delivery also available through Liu by Jun’s on Deliveroo.
The latest Counter Culture edition continues piehaus’ mission of bringing different culinary cultures and perspectives into its handcrafted phyllo creations, with this instalment extending the collaboration into a second kitchen for the first time.
