Escape the Noise: Dubai’s Smallest Library Opens for One Week Only

A cuppa and a corner

To mark World Book Day, two homegrown brands — Bookends and Julith Coffee & Roastery — are teaming up to launch something refreshingly different: Dubai’s Smallest Library. Running from 23 to 30 April, this limited-time concept transforms one of Julith’s signature soundproof pods into a compact, curated reading haven.

Measuring just 128cm by 198cm, the space may be small, but the idea is expansive — offering a rare pause from the city’s constant buzz. Tucked inside Julith’s light-filled Al Quoz venue, the pod is designed as a distraction-free zone where guests can switch off and sink into a book, even if only for an hour.

Inside, visitors will find a thoughtfully curated selection of over 500 titles sourced from Bookends, spanning multiple genres and available in five languages. The aim? To make reading feel easy, accessible and — crucially — doable within a busy day.

Access to the library is free, but you’ll need to book a slot in advance via Julith’s website. Each session is capped at one hour per person, ensuring the experience remains calm and uninterrupted. If something catches your eye, books can be purchased on the spot via an honesty system — just scan a QR code and pay by phone.

While the concept may sound playful, it taps into a wider cultural shift towards mindful living and digital detoxing. It also aligns with Bookends’ broader One Million Books Challenge, a long-term initiative encouraging UAE residents to collectively read one million books over the next five years.

Co-founder Somia Anwar describes the idea as a gentle nudge back to reading: a space that removes the pressure of planning and simply invites people to step in and slow down. Meanwhile, Julith co-founder Beril Helvaci says the collaboration is a natural extension of the café’s ethos — creating intentional moments in a thoughtfully designed setting.

Beyond the books, the experience is elevated by Julith’s speciality coffee offering — from expertly brewed espresso to rare beans roasted in-house — alongside an all-day menu of comforting plates. Whether you’re stopping by between meetings or carving out a quiet lunch break, this pop-up promises a rare luxury in Dubai: stillness.
