A chef-led experience
Dubai’s ever-evolving dining scene welcomes a bold new arrival this May. Opening on 7 May 2026, TANSŌ in Jumeirah 1 is positioning itself as something entirely different: a chef-led dining gallery that moves beyond the city’s familiar Japanese restaurant formats.
Rather than leaning into omakase traditions or high-energy izakaya concepts, TANSŌ strips things back to what matters most — the kitchen. Here, culinary craft takes centre stage, with the space itself designed to support, rather than distract from, the food.

Set inside a discreet villa in Jumeirah 1, the venue reveals a striking interior once you step inside. Expect bold colours, raw textures and an art-led setting that frames the dining experience without overpowering it.
The concept draws inspiration from Tokyo’s layered identity — where precision meets disruption — creating a space that feels both restrained and expressive at once. It’s immersive, but not overwhelming; artistic, but never theatrical.

TANSŌ sits firmly in the ‘premium casual’ bracket, but don’t mistake that for simplicity. The menu is designed to balance accessibility with high-level technique.
Dishes range from lighter, inventive plates like Hamachi Apple — pairing yellowtail with apple sashimi and jalapeño acidity — to richer offerings such as Marrow & Grain, featuring miso marrow, pickled onion and nori dust.
For something more indulgent, the A5 Wagyu Striploin Ishiyaki is finished tableside on hot stone, served with ponzu and gochujang — a clear nod to the kitchen’s confidence in blending precision with bold flavour.

Launching alongside the main menu is Daichi Volume 01, the restaurant’s first seasonal series. This six-dish collection focuses on ingredients sourced from across the GCC, interpreted through refined Japanese techniques.
It’s a concept that reflects both locality and craftsmanship — using regional produce while maintaining the discipline and detail associated with Japanese cuisine.

Notably, TANSŌ is entirely alcohol-free by design. Rather than limiting the experience, the beverage programme has been developed with the same level of thought as the food, focusing on flavour pairings that complement the menu.
TANSŌ officially opens on 7 May 2026 and will operate from Tuesday to Sunday, 12pm to 11pm. Reservations are available via SevenRooms.
